Congratulations to my Artistic Direction and Content Marketing communication students from IIM Digital School Devinci Executive Education in Paris for their end of semester abroad showcase at Dorset College Dublin. The #BrainArt exhibition explores the multiple facets of artistic expression through photography, fine art and graphic design highlighting the diversity of students’ creative perspectives. Students also engaged with the #Museheadset @Muse® by Interaxon Inc and the #mindmonitor app to view their unique brain wave activity #Delta #Theta #Alpha #Beta #Gamma. Each student also interacted with their unique mind heat map which produced a co-creative brain art output hence the term #Brainart. This October I was delighted to present my paper ‘The enhancement of constructionist activities in private higher education institutions in Ireland through the integration of visual, technological and human literacies’, at the Constructionism 2023 conference at Columbia University in New York. The presentation shares my experiences as a lecturer in relation to integrating a core focus on visual, technological and human literacies into constructionist activities to produce creative, innovative and critically reflective graduates as well as engaged and participatory citizens in today’s connected global knowledge society. The presentation outlined the range of constructionist projects undertaken by my students using tools including #VR cameras, BBC Micro:bits, 3-D pens, digital photography, musical instruments and art project exhibitions. I also explored the notion of ‘City As Classroom’ and #cyborgartproject and I announced my new #BrainArt project in conjunction with students from Dorset College Dublin. It was wonderful to deliver a mentor training programme to the employers as part of the requirements of the national apprenticeship programme in Aboriculture (Level 6). The role of the workplace mentor is to support the apprentice in the work based learning, provide guidance and direction to the apprentice in the completion of all workplace tasks. The programme is 2 years in duration and was developed by a team of industry experts, it includes both off-the-job (in a Training Location) and on-the-job (with an Approved Employer) phases.To become an arboriculture apprentice, you’ll need a strong interest in working outdoors and a willingness to learn. You’ll receive training and guidance from experienced professionals, and will gain practical skills and knowledge that will prepare you for a rewarding career in tree care.A career in arboriculture is best suited for those interested in the care and study of trees. An interest is necessary in working outdoors in a physically challenging environment with a good head for heights whilst keeping fit and learning new challenges in a continually changing environment – as every tree is unique in its own right.The progamme leader is Garrett Murphy and the National Coordinator is Jeremy Ryan. https://lnkd.in/eMeGp3YR

I was devastated to hear the news that my good friend and colleague Henry McDonald has died. Journalist and author, Henry was a kind and caring soul who went above and beyond in his role as lecturer and ALWAYS made extra time for his students and fellow staff members. Thanks to Henry's wit and his positive outlook our student trips to Belfast were packed full with fun and intrigue. Each trip would conclude with that special pint of Guinness only available (according to Henry) at Bittles Bar. God bless you Sir. We will miss you very much.
